Simply Me Link Up Vol. 1

Happy Halloween and Happy Saturday to you!  It's currently 45F here and I'm the only one awake in the house.  I love the quiet and stillness of Saturday mornings such as this. As I look out the french doors, there are three squirrels scampering along my deck and I see that my efforts of blowing the leaves off yesterday were apparently in vain because the deck is covered again.  LOL!  Gotta love autumn!

I don't typically post on Saturdays, but wanted to link up with Liz @ Sundays with Sophie for her monthly Simply Me feature while the link is still active.  This month's prompt/theme is:  STATES

Number of states I've lived in:  2 - West Virginia and Kentucky.

My favorite state is: West Virginia.
Let me go ahead and say this, I'm biased towards and fiercely protective of my home state of West Virginia.  I love the people, the slower pace of life, and the nature beauty of the mountains.  My second favorite state is California because of it's diversity - beaches, dramatic coastlines, mountains, giant redwoods, sequoias, rivers, mountains, and deserts.

Why do I live in the state where I currently live?  I received a job offer in Kentucky after finishing graduate school.  Of the three offers I received, it paid the most so I took it.  It wasn't my plan to stay here, though.  I planned to eventually work my way back to my home state of WV or to at least get closer. (I couldn't find a job in WV at the time.)  Then, I met and married a born-n-raised Kentuckian and I still have the job that lured me here, so this is where I live.

Would you like to move to another state?   Yes and no. There will always be a part of me that longs to move back to WV, for that's where all of my family lives.  I do miss the beauty of the mountains, too.  But, I know I could ever move back due to various reasons.  However, if my husband and I ever win the lottery, we're definitely moving to Hawaii!

What is your state known for? My state of residence, Kentucky, is known for bourbon and the Kentucky Derby.

Have a fabulous weekend wherever you are! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Visiting from Simply Me link up. Kentucky is a beautiful state. I've been following another blogger who lives there and she shares the prettiest landscape pictures from there.

  2. I love the fact that we were next door state neighbors and then we moved to other states. The only thing I really know about Kentucky is the derby! What else is there to do? Looks gorgeous from the pics I googled.

    1. If you are into outdoor pursuits, there are lots to do - hiking, fishing, rock climbing, canoe/kayaking, etc. Kentucky has 3 National Parks - Mammoth Caves (world's largest known cave system), Cumberland Gap, and Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace. Kentucky also has 49 state parks. Near Bowling Green, KY is the Corvette factory and national museum. Keeneland (horse track in Lexington) and Churchill Downs typically have both spring and fall meets where horses race daily. Louisville has a great science museum with an IMAX theater, a history museum (Frazier history museum), the Muhammad Ali center (a museum and cultural center), and the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. To my knowledge, KY has at least 2 minor league baseball teams - the Lexington Legends and the Louisville Bats. KY has no major professional sports team, but we are close to Cincinatti (Bengals and Reds), Indianaopolis (Colts and Pacers), St. Louis (Rams and Cardinals), and Nasville (Titans and a hockey team I can't remember the name of). In northern KY, in Newport (right across the river fro Cincinatti, OH) is a fabulous aquarium. In between Lexington and Louisville and a little further south, there are tons of bourbon distilleries that offer tours and sometimes tastings! I don't know much about the western part of the state (west of interstate 65).
