Currently... (Vol. 18)

Astonished...  by how tiny the preying mantis is in the picture above! It's the second baby preying mantis that has visited me on my deck in the past 2-3 years.  This one was the size of a nickel!

Recovering...  from the auditory onslaught brought on by my fireworks-loving and gun-shooting neighbors.  Not only did my neighborhood sound like Beirut Tuesday night, but it did the night before, and the night before that.  Hell!  Some have been celebrating July 4th since June!  My nerves and that of my dog's are shot.

Tearing through... Into the Water by Paula Hawkins.  I know!  I'm actually reading, like with my eyeballs reading!

Rockin'...  Erin's current book challenge.  I've already completed three of the ten categories:
1) Book made into Disney movie (Holes by Louis Sachar) - Completed July 1
2) Book from banned book list (The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie) - Completed July 2
3) Book with a non-human main character (The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein) - Completed July 5

Wondering...  what in the world's gotten into me for I haven't read/listened to this many books this quickly in a long time.

Enjoying...  on occasional morning walk at the zoo before it opens to the general public.  Thank you Norton Walking Club and Louisville Zoo!

Celebrating...  my wedding anniversary (a few days ago).

Amazed...  at the fact that 14 years have passed since R and I got married. Sometimes it feels like an eternity ago, sometimes it feels just like yesterday.

Wishing...  for the summer to slow down.  I'm officially over the halfway point (of my break) and to be honest, I'm not ready to go back.  Not. Even. Close.

Excited...  for two of my friends from work.  One retired (Congratulations!) and the other has just accepted a new position that pays more (Congratulations!).

Listening to...  the audiobook Razor Girl by Carl Hiassen.  Next up is The Pallbearers by Stephen J. Cannell.

Dealing...  with a huge disappointment.  I've been waiting patiently for another speech pathologist in the county where I work to retire so that I can transfer to the school where she is currently based.  Transferring to that school would shorten my daily commute from 90 miles to under 60.  It would also shave 40 minutes off my daily commute time.  Anyway, she's decided to work one more year.  Grrr...

Anyhoo...

Loving...  my new kayak.

Looking forward...  to much more time on the water.

Missing...  the sounds of birds as they are slowly being drowned out by the sounds of noisy summer bugs.

Beginning...  to attend spin class again.  It's been almost 5 years.  Wish me luck!

Watching...  season 3 episodes of The Affair (Showtime) that I DVR'd last fall.  So far, the season is kind of slow and...  weird.

Sending...  up prayers for my dad who is having surgery on the 10th.

June in a snapshot:
Top: Blackwater Falls, WV; mom and I riding the chair lift to top of mountain at Canaan Valley State Park in WV; kayaking Lake Shelby.  Middle:  night racing at Churchill Downs, a flower in the park; walking in the park.  Bottom:  my aunt and I in front of our former alma mater, meerkats at the Louisville Zoo, my view as I napped on my deck one afternoon.

So, here's the question: what have you been up to lately?

As always, thanks for stopping by!
