Currently... (Vol. 27)

Attending...  Thurby with my speech path buddies!  We take the day off from work, go out to brunch, go to the track, we make bad bets, drink Lilies (in lieu of Mint Juleps), and people watch.

Hoping...  that the weather cooperates today. The weather the past three years has been cold and/or rainy.

Happy...  to have completed the KDF Mini Marathon last Saturday and to have shaved 16 minutes off my time from 2009!

Counting...  down the days until summer break (15 days with students).

Dreading...  next week (state assessments).

Praying...  that I don't have to move to a different room at work next year.  If I don't, I won't have to pack up everything on my side of the room to be moved. Packing is a pain.

Feeling...  appreciated.  It's Teacher Appreciate Week and my school's PTO is pretty awesome.

Betting... on either Justify or Audible in the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby.  Hell, I might bet on both of them.

Laughing...  at the person who called me an "ass hole" in two different comments on an ancient blog post about a week ago.  Hey, genius - asshole is one word, not two and "they" is spelled with an 'e' not an 'a.'

Listening to...  the audiobook Separation Games by C. D. Reiss.

Reading...  nothing at the moment.  I started a book on my Kindle about a month or so ago and...  Well, let's just say that it fizzled out.

Pleased...  that I finished 2 books for the bonus round of Erin's Book Challenge. (See below.)

Ready...  to get out my kayak and spend some time on the water with my 'yaking buddies!

April in a snapshot:
1) Spring buds, R and myself @ The Bean in Millennium Park, Dragon Lantern Lights Festival in Chicago
2) Red velvet French toast @ Yolk in Chicago, wearing Red for Public Ed, at an education rally at the capitol in Frankfort
3) After I completed the KDF miniMarathon, stumbling upon some fascinating junk, on a search for street murals

What have you been up to lately?

    1. Sounds like a lot of work! Try your best to squeeze in some fun here and there. You know what they say about all work and no play?

    1. Thank you (re: challenge). I did enjoy the day off and the weather did cooperate. It was overcast and humid, but no rain.

  3. It's cold/rainy here as well today.

I can't believe you're already counting down to summer break. I feel like it was only just Christmas!

  4. I hope the weather cooperates for you this year! And I can’t believe that somebody left you that kind of comment, although I feel like you can’t take them seriously when they have all sorts of misspellings in their insults.

    1. The weather did cooperate - hallelujah! It was overcast and looked ominous at times, but the rain held off. It was warm and humid, but at least we weren't freezing (like we have in years past). Oh, the troll... yeah... Thing is, the comment was left on a very benign blog post and I said nothing controversial. Apparently, he/she/it was offended because I said RIP General Lee, Bo, Luke, Daisy, Boss Hogg, etc. (from the Dukes of Hazzard). I'm not saying anything that isn't factual because since TV Land pulled the plug on the show, The Dukes of Hazzard is dead. LOL! It takes all kinds, doesn't it?

    1. It is! The Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks (the day before Derby) are HUGE events and very $$. Thurby is on a smaller scale, for the time being, and is attending more by locals. Before I moved to KY, they said Oaks Day was "Louisville's Day at the Races," but then non-residents coming in for Derby discovered Oaks and attendance soared and so did ticket prices. Thurby is the new Oaks Day.

  7. Can you Justify betting on both of them?

I apologize for my bad typing.

    1. Oh, E Man... I know better than to believe that... You're too much of a gentleman and you can spell.

Can I Justify betting for both of them? Absolutely! It's my money and I'll bet how I want to! ;) LOL!

    2. Oh my. Did you bet on Justify?

    3. Absolutely! I bet on Justify to Win/Place and I bet on Audible to Win/Place/Show. I won $42.

    1. Yep, that's basically what I did... I do think I called him/her an asshat in return, but then I was like, "Geez... You moron. If you're going to be a troll and leave written comments on my page, at least spell the words correctly."

      Thank you!

  9. I'm in the middle of 3-4 books that have fizzled for me. How disappointing, right?

    Congrats on the mini-marathon time!

    1. Thank you! My bets at Thurby were not good, not good at all. I stunk up the track in terms of betting (good thing I don't bet big amounts of $). But, my friends and I had a great time! Hopefully, my betting today (Kentucky Derby) will make up for Thursday!

    1. Yeah, he/she is complete troll. Thank you (re: my mini time); yes, we enjoyed Thurby (Thurby is the new Oaks, or so I've been told); yes, overall it was nice, just a bit warmer than we are used to; and as soon as I saw the name, Audible, I knew I had to bet on him bc of all the audiobooks I listen to!

I've been running around like a madwoman. So busy! When I'm not at work, I'm working on getting this house together.

    1. This spring has been a bit busier than normal, much of that was due to my participation in the half marathon in late April.
