Happy Friday the 13th and Happy Odd Day! Most everyone is familiar to some degree with Friday the 13th, a day that's considered unlucky in Western superstition, but chances are that you're not as familiar with Odd Day.
Odd Day occurs when the numbers of the date appear in three sequential odd numbers such as January 3, 2005 (1.3.5) and today November 13, 2015 (11.13.15). We better celebrate this day because today is the sixth and final time this will happen this century!
Without further ado, here are 10 things that made me happy this week:
- Honestly, I'm not a fan of Jason or Friday the 13th (movie), but I think this is funny.
- A fun evening with work colleagues at a good old fashioned pig roast hosted by one of guys from work.
- Making not one but two pans of corn pudding to take to the pig roast. Why is this such a big deal, you ask? Because I don't cook. Seriously, my cooking skills are VERY limited. This is pretty monumental for me! LOL!
- This meme. Hehe!
- I've been working with a student for about 9 months on the correct usage of conjunctions. He has already grasped the concept and usage of and, but, or, before, after, and because. However, he is struggling to wrap his mind around although. On Wednesday - and during my observation, no less - while attempting to construct the sentence "Because the musician stayed up late, he was tired." my student constructed this sentence instead: I will admit, it was a tricky sentence, but he knew that it simply didn't make sense and wasn't right. Finally, after several failed attempts to correct it, he came back to this original sentence and then said, "You know, Mrs. B., if we could change because to although, the sentence would make more sense." YES! If he can make that kind of analysis, especially when I hadn't planned it and it just happened that way, then I think he is well on his way to grasping the concept and usage of the conjunction although. YES! That moment absolutely made my day! Moments like that are why I became a speech therapist.
- A 25% Off Your Entire Purchase coupon at Michaels (craft store).
- This hot air balloon greeted me one evening on my commute home. I would love to take a ride in a hot air balloon one day.
- A blogger acquaintance of mine and fellow transplanted Louisvillian, Kristen @ See You in a Porridge, posted an awesome blog entry on Wednesday about our fair city and some cool things to do if you ever find yourself in The Ville. Be sure to check it out!
- A coworker and good friend of mine was in a bad car accident last week. She returned to work Thursday. It was good to see her.
- AND... Yesterday I heard the news and saw the trailer for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2! I seriously doubt it will be as great as the first, but I am looking forward to it just the same! To watch the trailer, click here.
Happy Friday the 13th to you! Have a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

Big Fat Greek Wedding was a fav movie of mine. So good to know it is coming out withh #2. Love when I find these things out. Friday the 13th, never a fan. I can't do scary movies. And as a teacher, I know the feeling when our kiddos "get it." It utlimately pays off all the work we do. Have a wonderful weekend from Why Girls Are Weird link up.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan or Friday the 13th movies, Jason, or any scary movie for that matter. I just thought the Friday the 13th/Jason memes were funny.
DeleteHave a great weekend!
I love your Jason theme! I totally didn't realize it was Friday the 13th! I love hot air balloons! Taking a ride in one is definitely on my bucket list. :) Great list!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Jason or the movie, but these meme/cartoons crack me up. I couldn't resist using them. LOL!
DeleteI quite like the Jason/Friday the 13th meme, even though I'll admit I've watched none of those movies!
ReplyDeleteHope your coworker was alright or at least recovering. Must've been scary.
I haven't seen hot air balloons around here lately... They're cool to see, I'd love to go in one some day. We used to see a lot in the sky but I can't recall when the last time that was... Hmm.
Have a great weekend my dear! Xo
I watched Friday the 13th (exactly which one, given there were so many sequels, I don't know) once and it was during a sleepover when I was a tween or teen. I don't like scary movies at all, but I like the Friday the 13th/Jason memes! LOL! Have a great weekend, yourself!
DeleteThe Friday the 13th memes are hilarious!! I wish I could randomly see a hot air balloon! That would make my day! =)

I actually see hot air balloons semi-frequently around here, but usually in the spring. It's kind of exciting to pop over a little knoll and see one.
DeleteI have no interest in watching any Friday the 13th movies nowadays, but they served their purpose for slumber parties with girlfriends back in the day. I'd missed Kristen's Louisville post which is weird, because I almost always read her stuff. So, thanks for sharing. I've never been to Kentucky. It's good to read about other places and cultures that I might visit someday (because I want to go everywhere and see everything). That story about your student was awesome! Good work to the both of you :)
