Recently Read - Vol. 16 (Feb. '17)

Happy Show Us Your Books Tuesday!  February was a good month for me in terms of reading, although I didn't read many.  But, isn't reading more about quality rather than quantity?  Of the two books I read in February, I gave them both a rating of at least 4.

Without further ado, here are the books I read last month:

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
February 6-12 | Format: Audiobook | My rating: 4.5/5

One True Loves is the story of Emma, a woman who unexpectedly has to choose between her husband, who was presumed dead, and her fiancé.  Told in the present tense as well as through a series of flashbacks, One True Loves is the story of love and the capacity of the human heart.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  It elicited a range of emotions in me from despair to heartache to anger to joy.  This is the second TJR book I've read and it certainly will not be the last.

The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz
February 13-27 | Format: Audiobook | My rating: 4/5

The Bourbon Thief is a clever little mystery centering around a one million dollar bottle of bourbon that is told in the present day and through flashbacks dating back to the late 1970s/early 80s.

Some of the dialogue was a bit wordy and terribly drawn out, but then again, that could've just been due to the audiobook narrator.  Overall, I enjoyed the book and I especially enjoyed all the local Kentucky landmarks that are featured in the book, many of which I am very familiar with.

What have you read lately?  Anything worthy of addition to my TBR list?  If so, please feel free to comment below.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

PS  To all my math lovin' friends - Happy Pi Day!

  1. Was The Bourbon Thief on your tbr prior to the book challenge? If not, I'm glad a category was able to help you find a book that you enjoyed that was off your radar.
I still need to read TJR.

    1. The Bourbon Thief was on my radar because I had read a review from someone else and it caught my interest, but it hadn't been on my radar long. Most of the Kentucky scenes take place in Frankfort, which is less than 10 miles from where I work. i would definitely recommending TJR.

    1. Kristen, it takes place a little bit in Louisville and a lot in Frankfort. Some of the story takes place in South Carolina.

  3. Like Kristen above, One True Loves was my favourite by TJR. I have heard that her new book coming out this summer is amazing too though (you'll see it around the link up today :)). Maybe in Another Life was also excellent in my opinion! Happy Pi day! Totally forgot about that! lol

  6. My library - for some rude reason - has only one TJR book and one that doesn't interest me. Grrrr ... I may have to bite the bullet and buy one because she seems universally praised.

    1. Hmm... That's odd. Is it available for an inter-library exchange with another library (which may be more trouble than it's worth...) Thanks for stopping by!

  15. I so need to read TJR and soon! I only hear good things about her books. I have one right now called Maybe In Another Life. I just don't know if I should read it next or The Orphan's Tale. Decision decision!

  16. TJR has quickly become one of those authors where I will read anything she writes!

  17. Like others before me, TJR is one of those authors that I'd eventually like to get through all her work.
Narrators can make or break a book for me. Hands down, Davina Porter is THE BEST narrator ever. She reads the Outlander series and I'm pretty sure I'm still listening because of her, not because of the story.
