Tuesday Topics (Not on Tuesday) - Eight (Most Unusual) Film Characters That I Can Think Of

As I began brainstorming characters for this week's prompt, I gave great consideration as to what makes a character "unique."  Is it physical characteristics alone or does it go deeper?  In the end, I decided that a unique character is a someone who is hard to replicate, the kind of character who isn't a dime a dozen.  The characters I chose are ones who stand out from the crowd in my mind and who, ultimately, became somewhat timeless in their relevance in pop culture.

Here are the eight I came up with:

Benjamin Button
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Hannibal Lecter
Silence of the Lambs (1991)

The Goonies (1985)

Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands (1990)

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Revenge of the Nerds (1984)

Karl Childers
Slingblade (1996)

Beetlejuice (1988)

What unusual film characters come to mind for you?  Please feel free to share, for I love audience participation!

Please join me next Tuesday, April 3 as I count down the most unusual movie/tv soundtracks, scores, and theme songs I can think of.

Parting thoughts...

  1. Beetlejuice (the movie, not really the character) always terrified me. My mom was always like "uh, that's odd, because it's supposed to be funny". I thought it was scary so, to this day, I won't watch it and stay away from anything Beetlejuice-esque.

    1. i watched a bit of beetlejuice and didn't like it either, kristin. but he is a pretty interesting character.

    2. I can see where Beetlejuice could do that, especially if you were very young. Death, ghosts, the giant snake, the man with the shrunken head, the bloody football team, the eyeballs in mouth scene (when Geena Davis' character and her husband are trying to scare the family out of the house), etc... I can see where all those things would make quite a terrifying impression on young kids.

  2. i love that you did this, ericka. thank you. i'm going to work on my list today/tomorrow.

    1. No thanks needed. I've had a good time compiling my lists. :)

    2. PS. I'm always happy to support a fellow blogger in interesting linkups!

  3. Jews be like: Winning!!!

Anyway, sci-fi and fantasy movies have the best weird characters. Horror movies too. Where does Freddie do his laundry? Does Jason floss and brush his teeth? What brand of deodorant does Michael Myers use?

    1. Well, I don't watch much sci-fi, fantasy, or horror movies, so I just had to go with what I knew! LOL!

    2. It was just a general observation.

  4. Beetlejuice and The Goonies are two of my favorite movies! They bring back so many good memories from my childhood. I remember trying to get my parents to do the table dance they're forced to do in Beetlejuice--they never would. I recently let my kid watch The Goonies and he's in love, too.

    Do You Dog-ear?

  5. I haven't watched it in a long time but I loved Edward Scissorhands. And yeah - Benjamin Button is an unusual character.

  6. LOL - great Easter/April Fool's combo!
