Autumn 2016 Goals


In my adult life, I've never really been one for resolutions, but I do make goals periodically - I just never start them on January 1.  Several examples of goals I've made in the past include:  rafting on the river twice over the summer, completing a half marathon, reading/listening to 50 books/audiobooks in one calendar year, and being one of the first five finishers in a particular book challenge.

So, I'm no stranger to goals.  In fact, I deal with goals on a daily basis in my work.  Every student on my caseload has an IEP (Individualized Educational Program) in which I clearly spell out what I plan to do with them in speech therapy to address their communication needs.  I also provide goals that I think the students can achieve within one calendar year and that is what we work towards in therapy.

I've never been one to be vocal or overly public about my goals; I usually tend to just share them with friends on a need to know basis.  But, considering that I'm on a quest to find my missing mojo, something I made very public last week, I think some clearly defined goals may be in order and I've decided to be completely open about them here.  Apparently, the "floating by the seat of my pants, waiting for opportunities to find me" method I've been relying upon lately isn't working.  Basically, it's time to put up or shut up.  So, as they say, here goes nothing...

GOALS
September 22 - December 20

  • Do at least ONE thing that is new and adventurous.
  • Lose at least 15 pounds more pounds. (I've lost 15 pounds to date, so I'm shooting for  a combined total of at least 30 pounds by Dec. 20.)
  • Complete my Goodreads 2016 Challenge by reading at least 52 books. (As of this writing, I have completed 46, so I have 6 to go.)
  • Do something creative (besides blogging).
  • Establish an exercise routine.


There you have it.  I deliberately kept the number of goals small to keep it simple.  My life is complex enough without complicating the dickens out of something that's supposed to be remedying my situation.  I'll update my progress with these goals sometime around December 20.

    Autumn goals... uhhh... does "eat as much pumpkin as I can before the supermarkets no longer have it" count?

  2. 6 books will be easy enough.
    And if you've already lost 15 pounds, you know what you have to do in order to make that happen again. It's totally achievable.

    Eh, I have no goals. Unless "keep going" counts ha ha.

  4. Good stuff! Any ideas for the creativity one? I am not very creative aside from writing and taking pics.

    I need to re-establish my exercise routine.

  5. 15 lbs already, congrats to you! That's awesome, best of luck on the next 15. I'm right there with you, I have a date in February in mind that I want to drop a dress size or 2 by. I think I can do it.

  6. 6 books should be no problem! I just finished my goal of 30 books for 2016 and I think I set the bar a little too low for myself.

    I like the fact that you stuck to 5 goals. Sometimes I see lists of 30+ goals per season and all I can think is that I would forget about half of them and then feel like a failure, haha.

  7. I have doing something creative on my list too, though I have no idea what I actually want to do/make/create. My list has a lot of outings that can only be done in fall, like apple or pumpkin picking. I like to keep my list somewhat short, though this time I had a few goals from summer that spilled over into fall. Good luck on reaching all of your goals!

  8. Good job with the reading! My goodreads list has gone to the dogs because I have run out of time to read now that school has started. I'm hoping with a few upcoming breaks that will change but I don't think I'll make my goal this year :(

  9. Good luck with all of these. The reading looks to be the easiest but if you get the exercise routine in place that will help with the weight loss. Well done on that so far too.

  10. obviously i'm all for the "establish an exercise routine" one...you can do it! and here i am rooting for you but i'm trying to peel myself away from the computer to go to the gym LOL. i love muay thai but i don't like my regular gym anymore (there's no muay thai on mondays) but I know i need to keep up with my lifting and running just so i can do more muay thai.
